Transience and Ethics:
Why are we here? What purpose do we serve here on Mother Earth if we are not needed?
Are we here merely to be slaves to capitalism?
Is it not our duty to think, and to cry out—ethically and in horror—when we witness, day after day:
– People on Mother Earth being tortured and killed?
– Us increasingly destroying our environment while stoically watching animals die in agony?
– Us attacking public figures—such as police officers—with the intent to seriously injure them?
– Us fundamentally glorifying violence, losing the capacity for self-criticism, and resorting only to aggression?
What have we become, that we are indifferent to everything, no longer honoring culture or the heritage of humanity?
That we live only for the moment, starting over fresh each morning?
That, out of eight billion people, we must walk our paths alone because we fear intimacy and commitment?
I fear what lies ahead—and that we might lose ourselves completely.
